Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar was the American and British sitarist. She was the first and the first woman to be awarded a British House of Commons Shield she has had Nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first musician of Indian origin to perform live and to be a presenter for the awards ceremony. Anoushka Shakar, who is just a emerging star on the Indian Sitar, is Anoushka. She is a student as well as daughter of the legendary Ravi Shankar. Born in London She spent her first few years of her life traveling between London and New Delhi. When she was 13 she staged her first show on stage in New Delhi. Then she moved to Encinitas CA, where she obtained the High School diploma with honors in the year 1999. Even though she's very young, Anouskha is a star in her performing and recording. She is often seen performing with her dad and has done so for a long time years. The singer made Anourag her first solo album in 1998. The Grammy Award-winning live at Carnegie Hall was released two years later than her first solo album. The stage work she has done is extensive for she has appeared in all of the biggest venues in the world. Anoushka Shakar's work is not only limited to music. Bapi: The Love of My Live is her 2002 book, which was a tribute to Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her starred on Dance Like a Man as the Bharat Natyam artist. Anoushka Shankar is currently a rising star and her career will continue to grow. Anoushka Shankar is a British born singer who travelled her early days split between London, Delhi and California. She began studying music when she was nine years old and played the sitar to commemorate the 75th anniversary of her father's birth in Delhi the following year. Anoushka had the opportunity to acquire many valuable experiences as she traveled with her father when he toured the world. It included performances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD concerts and making recordings with George Harrison. She was the only female to receive the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament to recognize her artistry and musicianship as an outstanding musician from the Asian Arts.
